Heritage Community Initiatives
Who We Are:
Heritage Community Initiatives is honored to celebrate their fourth decade of serving families in forty communities within Eastern Allegheny County through their Transportation, Education, and Nutrition programs. Each year, Heritage provides highly accredited academically based early learning and out-of-school time programming for over 300 at risk children. Heritage Community Transportation, a fixed-route transit service in operation for 20 years, has provided more than 1.5 million rides for residents in largely transit-isolated communities. Heritage is the only human services nonprofit in the Commonwealth designated as a provider of public transportation. More than 100,000 meals are served each year by their Nutrition Services, which offers solutions in meal planning, ordering, preparation and delivery while creating healthy options for youth and senior populations.
What We Do:
Heritage Community Initiatives is dedicated to serving individuals and families facing socio-economic challenges in forty communities within Allegheny County. Our programs – driven by need, impact and pragmatism – fall into three primary areas: Education, Transportation, and Life Enhancing Initiatives. Heritage 4 Kids Early Learning Center is widely recognized for quality and professionalism. Our facility, located in Braddock, is licensed by the Department of Welfare (DPW) and accredited by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which sets demanding standards for early education programs. We have also reached Star 4 level of Pennsylvania’s Keystone STARS, a program for the highest quality in teacher qualifications, professional development, classroom environments and curricula.
The organization provides the following help to single mothers and children:
