You May Be Wondering...
A Brown Mamas Chapter is a circle of women who choose to gather—socially, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically—for growth and connection. In action, our chapters are supporters, socializers, healers, and advocates, creating spaces where Black mothers can be fully seen, heard, and loved.
Not at all, sis. Passion matters more than a fancy title. We’ll equip you with in-person and online grassroots strategies for building your tribe, even if you’ve never run a group before.
No worries. When our founder Muffy started Brown Mamas, she simply put out a call to the women she already knew—and it grew from there. With the power of social media and our tribe-building strategies, you can go even further.
That’s up to you and your tribe. Some chapters meet once a quarter, while others spark full-on movements to solve community challenges. On the lighter side, expect around 10 hours a month to plan meetups or connect online. Or, like our founder, you could turn this into your full-time, life-purpose work.
Your costs depend on your commitment. Maybe your tribe only needs a monthly Zoom check-in—that might be under $20 a month. Training is $497 to start, and after that, you decide how connected you want to be to the Brown Mamas Network and how active your chapter will be
We will absolutely not leave you to the streets, sis. If you choose to upgrade into the Brown Mamas Network after training, you’ll gain access to quarterly and annual meetings, branded merchandise, ongoing training (fundraising, conflict resolution, chapter operations), and a community of chapter leaders nationwide to share best practices.
Absolutely! Organizational partners are the best. They can offer financial support, resources, access to their networks, and even shared manpower. We welcome both individuals and organizations into our training.
Nope. We believe in the beauty of intergenerational connection. Moms need to be held, helped, and witnessed at every stage of motherhood. We welcome leaders from all backgrounds, ages, and life experiences.
Yes—and we encourage it. The price of training covers your leadership team, not just one individual.
That’s up to you! Chapters have hosted everything from casual coffee meetups and park playdates to family-friendly outings and community advocacy events. We’ll give you ideas and templates, but your chapter will reflect your community’s unique needs.
If you decide to join the Brown Mamas Network, the process is: complete training → launch your chapter → decide on your network status → receive your official chapter listing + chapter kit.
It’s always okay to simmer your greens, sis. Whether you join the network or not, we want you to choose rest when needed. If you’re in the network and need a break, we’ll hold your spot until it makes sense for you to return.
