Sheryl Underwood Bashes Natural Hair [WATCH]

Sheryl Underwood recently criticized "nappy hair" on the daytime talk show "The Talk."  She undoubtedly left me with a bad taste in my mouth.  Not only did she in a very cruel way criticize the African-American reality of beauty, but she did so wearing a wig and in front of a group of white women.  This is exactly what I mean.  WE tear each other down.  We are so quick to point the finger, laugh at one another, gossip about one another and downright hate one another without realizing that to do so is to throw a boomerang that ultimately points out how Black women feel about themselves.

We don't realize how powerful we are.  Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler don't realize their power.  Watch this conversation go viral and you'll realize how powerful Black women are.  Outside of this conversation, I hadn't heard anything about "The Talk" after Holly Robinson-Peete and Leah Remini  (who is also very "urban") left the show.  The issues that matter to Black women make the world, or at least the media, go around. Every time Beyonce farts the media goes crazy.  If Oprah's ratings are down by a 1/2 a point ABC calls in the Gayle King reinforcements.  From the controversy surrounding women in hip-hop music, to natural hair to civil rights and teen pregnancy, instead of saying if its bleeds it leads, the news should say if its black it leads.  Wake Up!  We are the topic of discussion!

So let's use our power to flip the conversation towards something that is more beneficial to us and our community.  Let's stop bashing each other and start affirming one another.  The one mission I have on this blog is to get Black women to walk with pride. Be proud that you are a butt-whipping, snot-nose wiping, kitchen-cooking, husband-loving Brown Mommy.  You are great without the 9-5, without the hair dresser -- all on our own, we are the mothers of this earth.

Stop and ask yourself today, do you know who you are?  You are the great granddaughters of Nefertiti, Hatsheput and the Queen of Sheba.   Stop bowing to the powers that be by letting these conversations rack our brains.  Again, WE ARE THE CONVERSATION.  America doesn't take a dump, without consulting us first  (i.e. Michelle Obama).  Let's act like it!
