  • Discussion Topic - How Do You Keep You on the Agenda
  • Bonus Activity - Zumba for the Wii - No Excuse Fitness
  • Next Steps

Topics of Discussion

New Business: Status of Application

Outcome: $40 dues are needed no later than May 31, 2012 from each founding member. Elections will be held once application is submitted. Cynthia and Allegra are working out details of application. For the time being, Cynthia is Acting President and Allegra is Acting Vice President.

Discussion Topic 2: Fundraiser and Meeting Spaces

Outcome 2:  We may be able to do a fundraiser for HDAT and in turn use them as a meeting space. Allegra will inquire with Ayisha Morgan Lee and provide an updated status. The Children's Museum denied our request to use their space. We will continue to self-host and explore other options.

Discussion Topic 3: Icebreaker and Games

Outcome 3: The Icebreaker focused on giving insight to the group on who we are as mothers.  We each shared one thing we don't want our children to know about us, or one fact about ourselves that would surprise our children if they found out. One Mom didn't want her kids to know how much she worries about their future and another Mom said she doesn't want her outgoing little one to know about her past struggles self-confidence and maintaining a holistic self-image. They both wanted their children to be fearless and ready to take on the world.

We played the "Name that Mocha Mom" game where we found creative ways to describe notable Mocha Moms  (real and fictitious) without using the most obvious clues. For example, Describe Michelle Obama without the terms First Lady, or President Barack Obama The game was a segue to discuss ways we can learn from those examples to take good  care of ourselves in addition to caring for our families.

Bonus Activity: Taralynn Lewis did a quick demo on how to get a good workout doing Zumba on the Wii as a fun way to stay fit that doesn't involve leaving home.

Mocha Networking: Rhonda Hall shared helpful insight on public education and school choice that numerous Moms found beneficial. We hope to incorporate her knowledge in some of our community outreach efforts.

Next Steps: Founding members must give dues to Cynthia  Mendoza - Levy. Cynthia will make arrangements with each member.   The group will go on hiatus during the summer with one group outing in June and an official meeting in July and then we'll reconvene in September.
