Brown Mamas Kicks-Off Black History Storytelling Series

The written word has never excelled at capturing the true essence of African culture.  Long before our ancestors landed on American shores the secrets of our culture, tradition and philosophy were passed down in oratory format.  The National Association of African-American Storytellers keeps this tradition alive by telling stories to children all over the United States so that they might see the significance, and hopefully pass down the tradition, of African storytelling.

During Black History Month, and hopefully beyond, mommys will be searching for ways to celebrate the achievements, struggles and cultures of our ancestors.  But as is the Brown Mamas way, I like to keep things simple.  All month long you can visit BrownMamas.com to hear the stories of our ancestors.  African storyteller Mama Sandi will kick off our series by telling a snippet of the iconic tale of "The People Could Fly" by Virginia Hamilton.

At bedtime you can listen to the stories of our brave ancestors with your children, and it only takes two minutes.  Just click and  play.  If you have a story you'd like to hear during the month of Febuary just send us an email at brownmommys@gmail.com.
